James Hardie Siding
What is fiber Cement?
Fiber Cement siding is a composite material made from cement reinforced with cellulose fibers. This composition offers many benefits to homeowners, offering lifelong protection from the elements. Some of these benefits include termite resistance, fire resistance, impact resistance. It also does not rot like conventional wood siding.
There are many reasons to choose fiber cement over vinyl, wood or engineered wood (composite). The first of these which is appearance. Fiber cement is over five times thicker than vinyl, allowing for deeper grooves and a more authentic wood-grain effect. The result is more elegant than vinyl, particularly on a historic home.
Next is function. Vinyl melts easily in a fire – even sometimes from the reflection of the suns rays. While Vinyl may crack and warp from the elements, fiber cement is more durable and resist warping, sagging and melting. Fiber cement is noncombustible, so it is much better at withstanding fire damage, while vinyl melts, and wood – composite or natural – go up in flames. Finally, fiber concrete is not only heat and flame resistant, but it also resists moisture and freezing temperatures better than vinyl, wood & composite.
